Tamper Analysis
Electronic meters with tamper logging features are now widely used in field and installed for all 3 phase consumers in both the HT and LT segments. These meters log a wide variety of data including events which are illogical electrical events which generally arise when a consumer has tampered the meter.
The event data logged by a meter is analysed for tamper in suspicious circumstances. This is a time consuming process, it takes an hour or two to analyse each meter in detail. Moreover, it requires a high degree of expertise. The engineer analysing the meter data needs to be well versed with vector analysis, the working of electronic meters and have a knowledge of how a tamper event is reflected in the data. With thousands of meters in field it is not possible to examine the data of every meter in details. This causes many tamper cases to go undetected.
Tamper analysis, a service offered by Datagen, where the data logged by every meter is fed into a proprietary database. The software brings together all the data logged by the meter and processes it; this is followed by an analysis of the exceptions by persons trained to recognise illogical events.
In addition, a comprehensive analysis of other data i.e. load survey data, instantaneous parameters, billing history etc. is also carried out to provide visibility of system usage like contract demand violations & power factor violations, loading patterns, usage profile etc. which helps to take necessary corrective actions.
Tamper analysis service helps in protecting revenue by identifying suspected cases of tampering. The analysis serves as an important link in the series of revenue protection activities for loss reduction, and must be carried out for all high value consumers. Tamper analysis also brings to notice such meters that might be faulty or defective, incorrectly wired or even outdated.
Specialty of the Service
- Use of special software (developed in-house) for data processing
- Integrated analysis of tamper events together with load survey data, billing parameters and instantaneous parameters
- Dedicated team of experts carry out a final analysis
- The service is done with anonymity, where the software encrypts basic information about owner of meter so that the analyst does not know whose meter is being analysed.
- The reports are generated automatically
- All meters, irrespective of numbers, are analysed within 3 days
